because it’s hard out there for a pimp!

The lovely and amazing snapped this photo of me talking about (a little tearfully) about Year One. I can’t say enough about how this year has changed my life - how sobriety seems to have opened up the world for me, revealed possibilities. I could launch websites! I could surround myself with literary types without mainlining a bottle of red wine. I could speak quietly. I could listen, really listen.

I’m hitting the road as we speak. I just read at Powell’s (thanks to all who came out in such inclement weather and for Kevin, Dave & Barb for the grilled cheese and conversation afterwards), and I’m en route to Seattle, where I’ll be gracing the stage at Elliott Bay Books come Saturday. And while I’m reading, signing, talking a great deal than I normally do, I’m also listening to people. I’m reading blog posts. Their tales of abandonment and maternal discord. Their thoughts on my book. The past few weeks have been about listening and participating in an ongoing conversation (online and off) and I want to thank everyone (most humbly) who has been on TEAM FOXY (translation: TEAM FELICIA).

However, as those politicos are so apt to say, the fight isn’t over yet! If you dig , might you take a moment to blog about it, spread the word to friends, or add a little sweet review over on Amazon.com. Might you query your local indie bookstore if they’re carrying the book? Might you swing by one of my many (thank you, TEAM ALGONQUIN!) events. I need as much help as I could possibly get! Even if you recommend the book in your Facebook, Library Thing or Good Reads account, I would be most honored. I believe in the power of blogs, and I hope (if you dig Sky) that you’ll spread the word.

Because, let’s face it, it’s hard out there for a pimp!!!! HELP!!!

I have a reading hangover from staying up much too late reading your book in one sitting. I have a couple of chapters left - am going to splooch hair dye on my head and finish book while color sets!

Hi Felicia, I just ordered your book on Amazon. I saw it mentioned on another blog, read the reviews on Amazon and had to buy it. I can’t wait to read it. Congratulations on your sobriety, I know firsthand how hard it is to get there and how it changes your life.

So when I get your book I’ll read it and post a review, on Amazon and on my blog. Wish you were coming here on your road trip.

I just finished reading the book. Superb. I am going to post a review in my blog next week. Anything to spread the word about this great book. So sorry I can’t view the photo in this post. Flickr is banned in the UAE!!

I offer all of you a large debt of gratitude! I am utterly warmed by all of your kind words and praise for Sky. I’m really, really thrilled that you all dug the book. My thanks!

Oh. My. God. Got home from your reading at Powell’s and started the book, finished it within 24-hours. Couldn’t put it down. It is so rare that a book compels me like that, too rare, but when it does it is heaven as I leave my body and enter another dimension for that time.

It’s the book I wish I’d written, but thank God I didn’t have the life it describes. What writing!

I have blogged about it once, but will go much bigger with it a second time!

  8. Felicia Says:

    Carrie,
You’re the best! Thanks for coming out & for the sweet words!

That’s it. I’m going to the bookstore. Right. Now.

After reading about your book on three of my favorite blogs from three writers who do not know one another, I’m pretty sure I better go buy and read it.

Congratulations on the impact you’re making on others and all blessings to you.

Hey! I know you don’t know me, but I had to come and tell you what an absolutely wonderful, heart wrenching, amazing book you have written. I was lucky enough to be able to review it on my blog and when I saw your blog address I had to come and stalk you ;)

You are simply amazing…and your book opened my eyes to a lot of things that would take me days to mention, and I wanted to thank you for that :)

I firmly believe that before long you won’t have to pimp this book out at all - the word will spread, if it hasn’t already. If you ever come to Raleigh, I am SO there.
