going back to basics…
How was my week? Well, my friends, let me give you the week in review:
1. I had a nervous breakdown at work on Wednesday and had to go home. I’m pretty sure I freaked out my boss and several of my coworkers. I continued sobbing all the way to Brooklyn and even through my four-mile run. I then proceeded to read Glamour and US Weekly and slept for twelve hours. Sorry, . I’m demanding a trial separation. Right now, my life needs to be about tabloid glitz and celluloid heaven. Easy things. Things I can handle.
2. I had my first phone interview with a very nice journalist who inquired about my looks. About me being pretty and how I felt about that. Thinking about Marissa Pessl and other “book hot” writers. I was very confused by this query because for the bulk of my life people told me I was anything but pretty. This is one of the blissful things about being a writer - you can hide behind your work shoving scones in your mouth. Or at least I want to.
3. I had several panic attacks planning for my reading/book party next week, and I called my father and Susan incessantly. They have helped me climb down from the ledge.
4. I had two nightmares about choking on blood. NICE.
5. Many people are writing very nice things about my book and I’m thrilled. Seriously. Really. Truly. Btw, I have a book out. Like, right now!
6. I saw my friend Kate Morgenroth read, and I heart her in more ways than she knows.
7. I convinced some guy who was carting a dog with an HERMES collar (you heard me right) to buy my book and he did.
Then I saw Lorissa’s delish photos, and I decided that in the midst of all the chaos this weekend, I’m going back to basics. I’m firing up the Kitchen Aid, my friends. The baking is back in business.

Firing up the Kitchen Aid, eh? While my week didn’t quite involve some of your stresses, I could use whatever you’re making. I had a phone interview of different sorts… and just got a contract in the mail for my first “nationally published magazine” article. I kind of want to sit and cry instead of work. But Kitchen Aid made food sounds even better than tears.
Hope this weekend brings some peace your way!

I, just last night, read an excerpt from your book in Redbook — about baking the chocolate cake and how it was the journey and not the result that was therapeutic for you. It was so very moving, and strange, to find your site now - via the Perfect Post award.
Glad I looked!

That panna cotta looks absolutely delicious.
Have fun baking and share pictures of what you made. Yum!
Enjoy your weekend, Felicia.

It’s amazing what kneading and punching down dough with do in the way of releasing stress. Hang in there.
