i’m having a diane arbus moment

This is what happens when you stay in on a Friday night, when you devour the biography, when you sit, transfixed, in front of your television watching Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus, and when you page through, slowly, her retrospective table book, .

Suffice it to say, I’m having a Diane Arbus moment. Maybe I’m taking some odd comfort in skirting the fringe.

The thing that’s important to know is that you never know. You’re always sort of feeling your way. -Diane Arbus

Hey, is the Bosworth bio good? Fun Bosworth story:
I was working on a short story at Columbia about the actor Montgomery Clift and I knew that Patricia Bosworth had written a bio of the actor. She was teaching at Columbia at the time and I found her email on the Columbia website and emailed her a question about her book.

Much to my amazement one morning I got a call and my caller ID said: Patricia Bosworth!! I was talking on the phone with her. She was extremely friendly, gracious, funny, smart. I told her I was planning on embellishing, expanding upon an anecdote that had been in her book about Monty Clift and she said, “Rob, embellish away!”

    Rob,
What an amazing story! My dear friend wrote Joan Didion once, and Joan wrote her a lovely letter back! With her return address! Amazing :)

Anyway, the book is incredible thus far (and wholly fascinating). I’ll have more once I finish it, but I highly recommend it.
