the pen-pal swap part deux..

you’re all talking about it, but are you writing? really? are you making connections offline? whipping out the pen and discovering that the chicken scratch is indeed your once perfect penmanship? (who writes the cursive letter for “Q” anymore??!! Bring Q back, I say!) remember, this project was inspired by both craftzine (big swoon) and samara o’shea’s wonderful book, . did you score a pen-pal from this project and have already received your first letter? did some pen-palling on your own? feel free to share your notes here and on our !

people are talking…
*Emira gets excited about stationery just as much as I do.
*Will Alicia make the leap and pen-pal it?
*Joy writes delicious letters, I can attest to that, first hand. Too bad I was a chump and had a nervous breakdown last year and couldn’t continue the wonderful letters. Have no fear, Joy, you’re getting a saucy little note sometime soon.
*Bonnie Jean’s on board!
*our first pen-pal swap letter posted online!
*we get love from the Craft (eh-hem Nat - the original Craft Star) rock-stars
*the that while letter-writing is a wonderful art, don’t do it if you can’t commit because there’s “nothing worse than waiting for a letter that’ll never come because someone decided they were too tired to write you a note. That’s not the intention of the project. The intention is to really get people to connect. You ready?”

note: i’ll be shoving my head in the oven today because of four hours of planning meetings. suffice it to say, if i make it out alive it’ll be a miracle. things will be quiet on the home front.

Oh dear, oh dear, I’m horribly deserving of Smart Alex’s rebuff! On the excuse front, my life exploded the very day after I enthusiastically agreed to pen pal (we need not go into details, but trust me explosions occurred). On the “I know there are no good excuses” front,…well…I have no good excuses. But I’m feeling the Spirit of the Written Word this weekend (can I get an amen!), so my little pals o’ pen, please keep from crying into your mail boxes just a few days longer…

What a wonderful project idea! I have an addiction to stationery. I just love buying it. I never seem to use it though which is the sad part.

  3. Amanda Regan Says:

I’m still waiting for a reply from my letter to Gillian, hopefully it’s just the postal service being slow or maybe she didn’t like the sound of me but I can’t help feeling disappointed when the postman doesn’t deliver a letter.Time will tell I guess

  4. Felicia Says:

    Amanda,
No worries! Why not write someone else on the list?
    Cheers, Felicia

I’ve sent out two letters already!

I think I may venture out today to find some ideas for stationary.

  6. Emily Says:

I have written and sent… & am making plans to splurge on some fancy stationery sometime soon!

  7. Jennifer Says:

I have written and received a letter. I was itching to get writing on my second letter, but a long weekend trip to DC has delayed that. I took stationary, but got distracted by the sights! Tomorrow, though, I’m planning to compose my second letter!

  8. Joy Says:

Felicia, you started something here…I now have more penpals. Yay! :-)

    thanks for instigating this…!

I had great joy taking a small pile of letters to the Post Office & wishing them well on their journey across the ocean. Thanks for inspiring connections.

It looks like I might be hopelessly late in joining, but I’d love to exchange mail with someone.

I’m a twenty-year-old college student about to embark on a year abroad (England, Turkey, Greece) then a few months in New York City before returning to my native Minnesota and college town Iowa.

A serial reader and writer - everything from Murakami to Chekhov, Austen to Eggers, Woolf to Didion, Melville to Lethem - I love to talk about books, writing, ideas in general.

Interests: elephant polo, buckaneering, flea circuses, swimming with squid, tightrope walking, fishfighting, orchid hunting, mist-netting warblers, tiger taming, collecting random urban detritus. (really more like photography, painting, writing, camping, cooking, traveling…though that’s less interesting. that thing about urban detritus, though, that’s true).

Check out my blog or email me if you’d like to get in contact.

I’ve had a great time writing two letter to too different people and plan on checking out a few more people that might want to exchange letters! Thanks for a great idea!
