naturopathica: the perfect formula for sensitive skin
Naturopathica Holistic Health’s mantra is succinct and clear: pure ingredients, pure results. The brand focuses on educating consumers about holistic and natural alternatives to repair unhealthy, damaged skin all the while committed to being socially and environmentally responsible. From recycled packaging, to sourcing sustainable ingredients, to providing an empowering, supportive workplace, Naturopathica is more than just marketing on a product label, their products and business practices deliver results.
After a stressful autumn and a summer where I deviated from my normal skin-care regimen, I experienced my first bought of adult acne. To me, this was devastating because I’ve always had clear, unblemished skin, and the more products I used, the more clogged my pores became, and I was left frustrated and confused. A beauty friend then helped me scale back on the products to focus on a spare regime, which consists of a cleanser, moisturizer, exfoliant, and a weekly mask for normal/combination skin. And it took three months and an enzyme peel at New York City’s Great Jones Spa for my skin to get back on track. Post-peel, my skin was sensitive (more on the peel and my new regimen later), and that was when my esthetician introduced me to Naturopathica for interim use. After a week of using the samples, I was completely impressed, and although I’ve returned to my mainstays, I can’t sing the praises of this product line enough. Here’s what I used:
The Chamomile Cleansing Cream is designed to cleanse the skin without stripping it of moisture or nutrients. Although the formula works best on normal to dry skin, it’s also incredibly soothing for those who have sensitive complexions (read: me). Cultivated in France, the cleanser contains lavender, chamomile, rose, and aloe, which serves to calm, hydrate, and heal skin of irritants. The creamy emulsion isn’t gluttonous or heavy, rather it coats your skin like milk.
The Crème Cassis Bio Amino Replenishment Cream is designed for “dry, devitalized or mature skin to correct and compensate for the aging process, hormonal changes and UV damage by allowing skin to retain more moisture.” Also ideal for sensitive skin, akin to the gentle milk cleanser, the moisturizer is lightweight and hydrating. My only criticism is the smell - sweet bubble-gum - although irritating at first (as I prefer unscented skin care), the smell quickly dissipates.
So if you’re looking for products that hydrate, moisturize, and sooth red/irritated skin, consider this terrific holistic line.
Full Disclosure: The products mentioned in this post were samples given to me a post-peel (for which I paid) temporary skin-care regimen. Going forward, I will clearly disclose which products I’ve purchased and which products have been given to me by PR agencies, manufacturers, etc.
