stacking up…
everytime someone sets foot in my house, i offer up a bag of books much like how a mother offers up a second helping of pasta. you’re not eating becomes you’re not reading, and it’s just another way for me to get the 100+ books off my floor and into your hands. last night while i entertained a friend, i kept pointing to various piles, noting that these books were NEW! FREE! and they come with a little bag.
YOU KNOW YOU WANT IT, I shouted. practically panting.
this weekend will be a long one as i’m taking a few days off to relax, decorate and READ. i rearranged my bookcases this past weekend and was firm with respect to which books i will read, i might read, i never will read. that hawthorne book looked so promising, that d.h. lawrence had potential, but then i’d lay on the couch, read the first few pages and hours later, i’d wake up with my cat on my stomach, eating the cover. sophie adores these authors, felicia, regrettably, does not.
My to-read pile is ambitious: Joan Didion’s Miami, the much-hyped Marisha Pessl book, Jennifer Egan’s The Keep, back issues of the New Yorker, the new issue of A Public Space, a second attempt at Nabokov’s Pnin (after being enraptured by Kubrick’s Lolita and Peter Seller’s performance), the new Edward P. Jones, the Anderson Cooper book, Food Politics…and oh GODDAMN, I’ve gone and done it again. I’m reading more than I can chew.
GODDAMN YOU, BOOKS. SMITE YOU.

Oh god! I could never finish these books in a long weekend – my eyes are always bigger than what I end up reading, if that makes any sense. I do try and read a book a week, though. And I read magazines on the train while listening to the IPOD and sleeping
