when the day becomes the picture you want to keep taking…

Mona & Felicia in Pasadena Yesterday was a day when my heart suddenly stopped – and it was a good thing. I can’t divulge many details, but I’ll say this: my book was optioned for film, and I wholly believe in the independent production company behind the project. We’re speaking to an award-winning director, the movie (if made) will be a written collaboration between me and the director, it will be shot in Brooklyn – the Brooklyn I knew rather than the stranger it’s become, and we refuse to cast the cute Hollywood starlet with her hair kinked out. No way. No day. We’re talking stark, daring, courageous, bold, honest, dark and real. I don’t know where all of this will ultimately go, but I’m ready for the journey. And I’m ready to join hands with this incredible, visionary team. That’s all I can reveal at the moment, but I’m happy. Truly happy.

Here is the sound of my hands clapping.

image above is of my dear friend Mona and me in Pasadena, May 2008. During my Q/A, I revealed that she is one of my mentors, my bright light, and, jokingly I asked if she would adopt me. Mona is the kind of beautiful and devoted mother I hope to one day be. Snapped by the lovely Alex
