dimestore luxe: TRESemme’s fresh start no frizz creme
There are very few hair products for coarse, curly hair that I evangelize on this space, simply for the fact that many of them are terrible (Aussie, Pantene, anyone?). Sometimes I find myself shaking my head sadly, sagely, realizing that these companies have such good intentions but poor execution. That we’re trained to believe that curls are the stuff of Peyton Sawyer on One Tree Hill or a flouncy do on a Cover Girl model, when the reality is that sometimes I look like a Chia Pet. Sometimes I need something more than a glob of cream and a packaged promise.
Sometimes I need to feel as if I’m free of the Chia situation. And in my constant quest to test and find products that truly work on my thick, coarse curls, I’m stumbled onto obscure brands, revered mainstays and the few surprises — namely TRESemme. I’ll be frank, for years I avoided TRESemme. Chalk it up to the poor-performing lines of the late 90s, but I was convinced that the brand knew the straight-haired girl, flirted with wavy, and outright lied to the curly-hair crop. Until now.
Recently I had the opportunity to sample TRESemme’s forthcoming Fresh Start line, which seeks to deliver fresh-feeling hair without the salon prices. Since I’m always on the hunt for a non-crunch styling product, I was thrilled that not only did the Fresh Start No-Frizz Crème ($4.99, available in early March) maintain and articulate my curl, but it reduced my ubiquitous frizz situation. Ideal for all hair types, the Crème quells frizz without residue or buildup, preserving natural shine. And if the cost won’t send you into delirium, the results will. Sometimes it feels good to know that you won’t have to hock a kidney to rock out your curl.
