From blood-red beautiful distressed leather to indigo lambskin to studded patent leather to pebbly totes, I’m mad for handbags. Call me a collector of sorts, but I take great pains in curating a diverse collection from bejeweled box clutches to the everyday satchel. I’m classic in the sense that I prefer lightweight bags that have structure, subdued hardware, and pristine leather. I don’t opt for cheap plastic and trends, I’d rather save up for bags that will last decades. My first acquisition was a Coach tote, and although the bag weighs as much as an infant, it’s in impeccable condition. I look for sturdy, well-constructed leather than will age well, and I’ve been known to inspect a handbags piping, zippers, and pockets to ensure that I’m investing my hard-earned dollars on an accessory that will endure.
If you’re able, splurge on yourself this holiday season by investing in a delicious accessory, which will update your wardrobe and last longer than your nubby sweaters and embellished flats. From the affordable to the lavish, here are my handbag selects for epic gift-giving!
Botkier Clyde Trigger ($455, on sale!): Although this bag exudes more of a downtown flair, Type-A gals like me j’adore its multiple compartments, subdued grommets, and distressed texture. I recently scored the Trigger in Oxblood (view left) for a song, and I’m obsessed with my new purchase. INVEST.
Hayden Harnett Havana Large Hobo ($498): I own handbags three times the cost of the Havana, and this is the bag that garners the most compliments. Although Hayden Harnett bags are a bit expensive, the leather is formidable, the detailing is superior, and you’ll frequently find the bags on sale. I scored the Havana for $250.
Givenchy Elschia Billy Sac ($1975): I’m having a major Givenchy moment, so I’ve dared to add this luscious bag to the wish list!
Furla Carmen Large Shopper ($369.99): I’m obsessed with wheat and neutral tones, which is a sharp contrast to the explosion of berry hues this season. Furla bags are phenomenal, and are an absolute recommend.
J Crew Parlour Satchel ($198), at left and Satin Clutch ($49.99): I adore, adore, adore J Crew bags, and these are worth the investment.
Lucky Brand Medium Slouch Tote ($169): A Rachel Zoe pick on Piperlime!
Sabina 2582 Tote ($179.99, on sale!): Who can resist an aubergine bag! Tap into the season’s obsession with berry brights by sporting this roomy carry-all.
Olivia Harris East-West Satchel ($445): I’ve seen Olivia Harris handbags in person, and they’re stunning. Chic details, great construction and durable leather.
Salvatore Ferragamo Icon Leather Tote ($950): The embodiment of classic, soigne sophistication, Ferragamo bags evoke images of Hepburn and the great ladies of another era.
