fashion for all: branding concepts
Today I met with my genius team at Peters/Funaro, and they presented five concepts for my burgeoning non-profit, Fashion For All’s, identity. After a rather extensive brainstorming meeting, where I talked about the brand and its attributes — Fashion For All is serious organization that doesn’t take itself or the non-profit world too seriously, FFA’s vision lies in empowerment and opportunity; we’re a non-profit grounded in exuberance, energy, and unwavering passion — the guys came back with impressive, powerful concepts. We’re not simply thinking of what “looks” right or what’s aesthetically pleasing, we’re focusing on what best defines and articulates the brand. These initial images are the foundation for press materials, leave-behind brochures, web-design, and a blueprint for all the materials we plan to create – from stationary to t-shirts. They not only have to communicate the brand clearly, they have to be flexible in typesetting and all print/online applications. In short, this identity has to do a lot of work on multiple levels.
I have two favorites, but I was curious about your thoughts. Feel free to email me, or drop a comment below.

I like the font/graphics in the second (punchy!) and the last photo – because it shows the dignity and beauty of your clients.

I don’t ‘like’ # 4.
I love # 1
Others are okay
Another idea
Fashion 4 All (and link the 4 with your mantra or ideology etc-4 part)
Just my two cents:)
LOVE what you are doing.
Was thinking about it today when shopping. Thought of all the huge discount racks i haunt at gap and banana etc and thinking how cool it would be to have a resource allotment just for that-to buy up hugely discounted garments to supplement donations……:) 2 cents again~

Felicia:
I like the aesthetics of #2. But the Photo on the last one speaks more to me. I also believe their could be some emphasis on “4″ as Lola suggested. The font in the first comp with “4″ just isn’t doing it for me, a little too romantic and whimsical. Not strong enough.

I like number 5.

I like 2 and 3

Photo #4 – bright, happy colors and lovely smiles. Maybe bump up the font a bit – like the design in #2.

I like the logo in the third one but prefer the photo in the first one. They’re all pretty good though. The only one I’m not crazy about is the one where it’s easy to read it as “for all fashion”.

#3 is my favorite. I feel like the woman’s face conveys a lot of the attributes you’re hoping will show thru in the ad – empowerment, exuberance, energy. I do like the tagline “What starts with fashion ends in opportunity” – so would add that to the ad also.
Great concepts! xo

Definite no on the #4 logo — it’s just doesn’t read well.
Something about the third logo is really bothering me from a design standpoint. I’m not entirely sure what the problem is, but I think it’s the way the yellow exclamation point brackets the “n” in fashion, putting extra emphasis on that one letter.
I like logo #1 a lot, and I think it’s the most flexible since you can use the f4a treatment on its own if need be. I can see it working well scaled up or scaled down, and it’s very distinctive.
I like logo #2 a lot also. It’s simple and puts strong focus on the name, thus emphasizing the message.
I wouldn’t use the photo of the little girl. I think it will confuse people, since adult women are the target recipients for aid. I like the other photos, though, particularly the last one.
Hope that helps! You’ve got some nice choices.

Thanks, guys! This is extraordinary, honest, and thoughtful feedback – I really appreciate it. Branding wise, I’m leaning towards the logo treatment of #1, but I love the pics in 3 & 5. I also have to remember that there will be pics scattered throughout the brochure, but the lead image should be captivating and evoke an immediate, visceral response.

#5 is my absolute favorite. here is why:
1) the font and logo treatment embody a lot of the “fashion” qualities: it’s classic, elegant and sophisticated – just as much as you want these women to look.
2) the emphasize on ALL in the logo is empowering your message. it also prioritizes what’s most important – it’s more about the people, not necessarily the fashion.
3) the image has aspirational qualities. These girls look like they are having fun – so you as a viewer want a piece of their experience. They look trendy enough – so you want to “shop” where they shop. They are the right age to attract both young audience and the older one, who is looking up to this generation.
I really hope this helps. So excited for you!!

Great concepts!
#1 – I particularly like this logo. It is clean, simple and modern. I definitely like that the f4a can be used separately on various promotional materials. I think this logo, coupled with a better image (#5 perhaps) would really stand out from the crowd. I do love the blue and the touch of bold yellow. Lovely!
#2 – I like this, but not as much as others. The yellow stands out nicely on the blue, but I feel like I want to pull the “all” over to the right a little. Overall, it is a nice, clean logo, but I think it lacks the real personality and diversity of what you do.
#3 – I do like this one, and I can envision a different colour “!” for different areas/locations/sections/divisions etc. – all as part of the overall brand, but somehow being slightly differentiated. I absolutely love the image here and it goes brilliantly with this logo. There is real “life”/”oomph” here. I do however wonder if the “!” overwhelms the rest?
#4 – Unfortunately this doesn’t read well at all. Even knowing the brand, I initially read it as “For All Fashion”. I do like the various hues of colour for each word, but I feel the blue and yellow is stronger.
#5 – I love the image here. The logo is classic and elegant. I do like that your tagline is part of the logo itself, but I can still see that removed and the logo working without it. The emphasis is on “all” which I really like. My only concern would be how vertical the image is and how well it can translate to other materials. For example, #1 could just use the “f4a”, but here you will need more real estate for the logo. Not saying this is a bad thing, as really I think this is a lovely logo, but just something to consider. I can’t tell if the colour on the right is purple? Perhaps there is some room to play there.
Overall, you have some really lovely options here and they have done a great job with this. I am very excited for you!

Lor – It’s as if you were in my head! You’ve echoed my thoughts EXACTLY. I thought of combining the logo treatment from #1 (which is my favorite and most versatile) with the image in #5. Thanks so much for your feedback, considering your formidable background! xo

I LOVE #1, its chic and i like the abbreviated version. Has a “fashiony” feel!
July 20th, 2009 at 11:55 am
i think the 3rd and fourth images are the most accessible. the one with the child sends a bit of a mixed or unclear message, I also like the last one but wonder if it is a bit to slick/glamourous. I like the use of Words rather than contrived acronyms. I like the typography with the exclamation point … maybe with some tweaking, and also the typography in the last image

I like the first and second fonts and the first and last pictures. I can see where the picture of the little girl could be confusing depending on who you’re trying to reach but I was drawn to that one first. The last picture could be seen like a great “after” picture.

I love #5!
