expert tips: how essential oils can reduce puffiness, keep you awake & whack that pimple!
Do you have a stubborn pimple that demands elimination? Want to create an aura of calm when your plane ride resembles a roller coaster at 35,000 feet? Pilfering through your medical cabinet isn’t always the answer, and although I’m not equipped to offer medical solutions to common ailments (always consult your doctor!), I asked Kayla Fioravanti, Vice President, Chief Formulator, ARC Registered & Certified Aromatherapist for Essential Wholesale and its lab division Essential Labs, for six essential holistic and aromatherapy alternatives to abusing chemical-ridden tubes. From learning how to perk up during long drives to whacking that pimple, she’s got some easy and delicious options.
Kayla’s Tips
•Apply tea tree essential oil directly onto a white head or blemish. The tea tree liquefies pus and kills bacteria.
•The best tip for puffy eyes is to avoid them all together by getting enough sleep. Apply lavender essential oil to a cotton ball and put it inside your pillow case. The subtle aromatherapy will help you get a good night sleep.
•Many essential oils work as aphrodisiacs much like pheromones. Some of the aphrodisiacs include: Anise, Cedarwood, Cinnamon, Jasmine, Lemon, Neroli, Patchouli, Rose, Rosewood, Sandalwood, and Ylang Ylang
•I put a little bit of lavender and tea tree into my bottle of rubbing alcohol that I have in my medicine cabinet. The lavender and tea tree infused rubbing alcohol can be used on every scrape and cut.
•Before boarding a plane or climbing in the car dab a few drops of lavender essential oil onto your finger tips and run you hands through your hair. The subtle aromatherapy will do wonders as you travel.
•If you are driving and need to stay awake peppermint essential oil will be your friend. Dab peppermint essential oil onto a cotton ball. Set the cotton ball gently into the slits of the vent of the AC. As air is pushed through the AC vent it will diffuse the peppermint essential oil. It will help keep you awake and cool. Don’t put too much on or it will be overwhelming, a few drops will do you.

I use peppermint oil as a pick-me-up during the afternoons at work. A drop rubbed on my temples and neck wakes me up and makes me feel better instantly.

Great tips. I really like the one about adding lavender and tea tree to the rubbing alcohol.

Karen – Did you also know that peppermint tea is excellent for digestion? I didn’t know this until this year, but it’s amazing to drink after any meal.
Carol – Thanks for popping by! So glad you enjoyed the tips.

During the summer months, I drink a lot of water with fresh mint leaves infused in the water that I keep in the refrigerator. Always keep dried mint at my sutler’s shop for re-enactors looking to make mint tea. Even the soap I make with it, helps cool the body during the summer. Love the herb plant this time of the year.
