giveaway: patricia storms’ sweet books
I’ve been an adoring fan of Patricia Storms for ages, it seems. And although I’ve been grateful for the fact that I’m not too terrible at telling a story, I’ve always secretly dreamt of being an artist. Someone who could tell a story visually as opposed to setting pen to paper, someone who can instantly create an image and evoke a childish giggle or a wide, jubilant smile. And although I’m an adult, there’s something so sweet about curling up with a children’s book (oh, how I wanted to be a private eye!!) – a magical, innocent world replete with extraordinary illustrations. So when the incredibly talented Patricia offered up a few of her illustrated books for giveaway, I desperately wanted to squirrel them away, page through the books and somehow be transported back to a world that was blissfully black and white. But I’ve managed to slap myself around a couple of times and offer two of her autographed books to one lucky winner!
About the books:
Edward and the Eureka Lucky Wish Company: Meet Edward, a super-inventive kid whose greatest wish is to fly. With a few final tweaks to his dream machine, the Sky-Hopper 2000, he’s ready for take-off! Or not.
13 Ghosts of Halloween: On the first stroke of midnight, ten children, two dogs and a cat enter a haunted funhouse. On their journey through the rooms, they encounter bats and witches and goblins. As the clock strikes, the children bravely sing, “Oh, nothing frightens me!” and one by one they disappear. By the twelfth stroke of midnight, only one brave child is left and he’s about to get a big surprise! This Halloween story is spooky and fun, and just right for young readers.
To enter, simply enter a comment in the space below, and one winner will be selected at random Friday, April 10th, 8am EST. Note: The winner will be randomly selected. Winners are not arbitrarily picked, and location plays no role in your chances of winning.
More about Patricia Storms after the jump!
About Patricia: Patricia Storms has always loved to draw, especially cartoons and humorous illustrations. Her teachers in school enjoyed her cartoon work, but often encouraged her to move beyond cartoons into more respected forms of art. As soon as she finds a more respected form of art, she promises to drop the cartooning.
Patricia is a freelance illustrator who loves to entertain for readers of all ages. She has worked for Scholastic Canada, Kids Can Press, TD Bank, ChickaDEE Magazine, American Greetings, Barnes and Noble, and Chronicle Books. Her big influences when she was young were geniuses like Dr. Seuss, Ronald Searle and Edward Gorey. These days she loves the work of Oliver Jeffers, Mo Willems and Mélanie Watt. She lives and creates in Toronto, Canada, with her husband and two fat cats in a 92-year-old house that’s full to the brim with books. You can see more of her work on her website
UPDATE: CONGRATS, Nikki! You’ve won.

I’m currently trying my hand at writing a children’s book. It’s harder than I first thought it would be! As a part of my ‘research’ I’m reading as many kids books as possible.
